My granny lived on a farm. Growing up, I would spend at least one week every summer there. She was a hard worker: milking cows, keeping a garden, canning, cooking, baking, washing clothes with an old wringer washer, and knitting socks and mittens for all of us, but she always had time for me and included me in whatever she was doing as was appropriate for my age. She loved to go fishing and she would take me along whenever she could take time from her chores. As a result of those experiences while I live in the city now, I still keep a garden, can my produce, knit, etc. The most important lesson she taught me was to always be kind to animals, children and old people – the most vulnerable among us. As an adult, I ran an agency that helped people in need always treating them with kindness and respect.
