Portrait of a Woman

It was the fourth of July. I just finished my freshman year of college and she just graduated high-school. we went downtown to watch the fireworks. we spent the evening searching for the best spot to stand. we ended up on the stairs leading up to the bridge. as the fireworks began we took a selfie. our only picture together. she fell asleep on the drive home. and as I dropped her off there was a pause before I pulled out of the driveway and that’s when we knew.
